Core Content

ASU is implementing a model for the ASU Web site, which focuses on creating and maintaining similar content centrally, and then creating the ability to share that content across university web pages.
Goals:
- Maximize the impact of the university brand
- Create seamless experience for the end user
- Allow anyone to start at asu.edu and be able to navigate easily from there.
- Reduce duplicative pages which often are outdated or provide inconsistent information.
Implementation of the core content model will also allow for the university to move more quickly in updating content and establish the foundation for the personalized experience.
Current Projects
News
ASU has implemented a new news presence, based on a content management system. Now, units can submit their stories (press releases, Insight articles, feature stories from unit publications, etc.) online and those stories will feed to requested categories. The online news editor can also then determine which stories feed to the ASU home page as well as to other pages at the university. Units can use these feeds to build localized story pages using the same content.
Academic program information
Degree Search serves as the official academic record of ASU and includes information on undergraduate and graduate degrees, as well as minor and certificate programs. This searchable, browse-able database is connected to admission applications and also features degree requirements in the form of an eight semester major map. The major map displays the recommended path to graduation, connects course requirements to the course catalog, as well as informs the student about other non-course based requirements. Degree Search also features career information, easy-to-use interest area search capabilities and descriptive videos. Upcoming features include new search methods to help students choose the program right for them based on math intensity or concurrent and accelerated program status.
Expanded Directory Project
ASU is expanding the capabilities of the online directory. Now, individuals can post photos and profiles. UTO is working to create the feed that units can use to pull their directory profiles to their pages.
The directory also connects with the course catalog.
Location
ASU has started to make location pages that will create a consistent presentation about resources that are located at a campus. There will be pages for each of the four campuses. This will allow for visitors to be able to quickly find geographically based information in a clarified approach.
Events Calendar
An overhaul of the current university event calendar system is being developed. The new calendar will allow events to be sorted by topic, date and unit/department/college.
