Dr. Donna Grandbois, PhD, RN, has been selected to attend for the Spirit of EAGLES Cohort 2 trainee program as one of the new Hampton Faculty Fellows. "Spirit of EAGLES" is a NCI Community Networks Program with a research base within the Mayo Clinic's Comprehensive Cancer Program with Dr. Judith Kaur as the PI.
The conferences bring together Mayo faculty and nationally prominent researchers in American Injdian and Alaska Native health. Dr. Grandbois begins her fellowship at the upcoming Spirit of EAGLES Ninth National Conference in Albuquerque, NM, October 25-28. The theme of this year's National Conference is "Changing Patterns of Cancer in Native Communities". This will be the 9th triennial conference on cancer in American Indians and Alaska Natives. She will also be featured in the next Spirit of EAGLES newsletter.
At the end of the conference it is the hope of the organization that the attendees have met certain learning objectives.
- Identify the current standards for screening for breast, colon, cervical, and prostate cancer and any modifications that may be recommended in American Indian and Alaska Native communities
- Recognize the unique needs of AIAN survivors
- Identify the essential elements for provision of palliative care with multidisciplinary team approach
