Summer Storage Program

The Summer Storage Program offers Niskanen Expansion and 1701 residents in two- and three-bedroom units the ability to move out for the summer, while allowing them to leave their stuff in the apartment. This program is available per apartment, not per tenant, meaning all residents must vacate. The storage fee is one month's rent, split evenly between all roommates.

Steps
  1. Complete the Storage Program Application by March 31 and drop it off at the Residence Life Office in West Bison Court.
  2. Complete a License Agreement Renewal for 2024/2025 prior to checking out. (Stay tuned for updated link/form)
  3. Schedule and complete a check-out with your complex manager at least five days prior to your intended check-out date.
    • Return keys to complex manager.
  4. Pay the storage fee by June 10 that will be placed on your student account.
Program Details
  • This program is only available for 1701 two-bedroom units and Niskanen two- and three-bedroom units.
  • This program is available per apartment, not per tenant. This means that everyone in the apartment needs to participate/vacate for the summer.
  • All tenants need to schedule a check-out with their complex manager. Tenants are highly encouraged to complete their check-outs at the same time.
    • Check-out appointments must be made at least 5 days in advance. Failure to do so will result in an improper checkout fee of $50.
    • At check-out, all garbage, food and drinks in the refrigerator, and any perishable items need to be removed from the apartment.
    • Apartment keys need to be returned to the complex manager at check-out and card access to the building will be discontinued.
      • Tenants needing to enter their apartment for emergency purposes during the storage period need to make arrangements through the Department of Residence Life.
  • All tenants need to complete a License Agreement Renewal prior to check-out.
  • The storage period will run from the date of check-out through the first day of classes or when a tenant checks back into their apartment, whichever comes first. Tenants are encouraged to check back into their apartments on the same day.
    • Rent for each tenant starts as soon as they check back into the apartment or on the first day of classes, whichever comes first. Example: Apartment 100 has two tenants storing their belongings this summer. Tenant A is returning to NDSU on August 5th. Tenant B isn’t returning to NDSU until August 26th. Rent for Tenant A would start on August 5th while rent for Tenant B would start on August 26th.
  • The storage fee will be the equivalent of one month’s rent as of June 1, and will be split evenly among the tenants.
    • This fee will be placed on your student account on or before June 1 and must be paid by June 10 ($35 late fee for each month not paid).
  • All tenants need to be registered for class for the Fall semester.
  • The Department of Residence Life retains the right to enter apartments for maintenance, inspections, and repairs throughout the storage period.
  • The Department of Residence Life is not responsible for property/belonging left in apartments during the storage program period.
