I received mail about dorm room linens from New Jersey, is this legit?

Yes! NDSU partners with a company from New Jersey, called OCM. All proceeds help fund events and scholarships in your hall. OCM specializes in making your room, your home. From bed sets designed for XL mattresses to wall decor that is hall-approved, you can get everything you need and want.

How do I get a parking permit?

If you will be parking on campus during the school year, a valid parking permit is required. The cost for the academic year is $185 and is charged to your student account in the fall. Parking permit sales begin mid-July.  Permits are available ONLY at the Parking and Transportation Services website. You will get your parking pass during check-in on move-in day.

How are rooms assigned?

All first-year students are guaranteed housing through the Department of Residence Life. Students who applied by April 1, 2022 were eligible to participate in the room self-selection process (they choose their own rooms online). Students who apply after April 1, or students who are part of groups like Learning Communities or athletics, will receive their assignment from Residence Life prior to attending orientation. All students will receive an email once their assignments have been made.

What if my roommate cancels?

If your roommate has decided not to attend NDSU, the next person in line by priority date will be assigned to your room.

How can I make a room change?

If you wish to make a room change prior to moving in, contact the Residence Life Office at (701) 231-7557 or ndsu.residence.life@ndsu.edu. If you wish to make a change after the academic year has begun, please contact your hall director.

Will I be notified if there is a change to my roommate over the summer?

Changes happen throughout the summer and roommates can change. For example, sometimes students cancel or place themselves on waiting list for a different hall. We highly recommend you check your student housing portal to view the latest information. Once you have your information pulled up, simply access your roommate’s email by clicking on their name.

Should I purchase renters' insurance?

We strongly suggest the purchase of renters' insurance to ensure a student's belongings are covered in case of loss or damage. Please check with your family's insurance company for information.

What is a triple/quad room?

If your assignment is in a triple/quad room, you will see it listed in your Housing Portal.  A triple/quad room is much larger than double room, and easily accommodates three or four people. Generally, there are only three people placed in one of these spaces.  If we are in an overflow situation (not enough regular rooms for all students needing housing) then an additional student will be added temporarily, until a permanent room is available for that student.

Each residence hall has its own specific bed type and lofting options.

Once a student moves in, the license agreement (which covers the entire academic year) can no longer be canceled unless the student leaves the institution.
